Cider
It is known among my close circle that I am I serious fan of hard cider. Wine is great, beer is meh, but cider? Cider is amazing! It can be sweet, tart, dry, acidic, super bubbly, foamy, spicy. Not to mention all the other complementary fruits that can be added to give it that extra umph of gimme-some-more-of-that.
I'll shamefully admit that I don't remember the EXACT first time, but Woodchuck Cider Amber was my first time trying cider back around 2008--maaayyyyybbbeee before I was legally able to purchase. I sadly don't remember if I was introduced to it by someone else, or if I discovered it myself. But what I DO know is that I've been a loyal and devoted fan ever since. This was before Angry Orchard, Redd's, and other now popular ciders were hot on the market. Even though I do drink these brands, I'm a low key hater, because Woodchuck was my first, had been there from the jump, but had somehow missed the popular cider wave.
So, over the years, I've just tried different brands and cideries' brews simply out of a desire to see if any of them could compete with my first cider love: Woodchuck.
I've tried:
Angry Orchard
Bold Rock
Cidre (Stella Artois)
Crispin
Johnny Appleseed
Redd's
Smith and Forge
Strongbow
Though these are great in their own right, none could compare to my beloved Woodchuck. Stella Artois Cidre was a very close second. I can and would drink the others if they are available, but never really seek them out.
Upon us moving to Virginia, I began to see more hard ciders that I have never seen before, or could even imagine! Then it occurred to me--Virginia is a part of apply country! Of course! So, not only do they produce a considerable amount of apples, but there are quite a few cideries here as well. How rich! I decided that I must taste them all. I already started documenting my reviews on my personal Instagram page. And it was through these posts that people wanted to know more, and see more, so here I am.
So, here's to you, Woodchuck Cider! You initiated my love for all things cider, and have launched me into the world of trying all that encompasses this wonderfully intoxicating (literally and figuratively) beverage.
